WASHINGTON – November 2, 2009 – Given the recession, consumers are watching their spending in the current economy and The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) is making sure college students do the same.  Experian serves as a partner to The Washington Center to support opportunities for our students to have a greater understanding of personal finances. As part of this effort, The Presidential Lecture Series will take place on Monday, November 2, 2009 and will provide tips and guidance on fiscal responsibility.

“Our Presidential Lecture Series is designed to ensure the success of our students as they transition into their careers"
“Our Presidential Lecture Series is designed to ensure the success of our students as they transition into their careers,” said Mike Smith, President of The Washington Center.  “Not only do they get the chance to test-drive a career of their choice, but lectures like this one will provide them with the other skills they need to stay on top.  We’re thrilled Experian can work with our students to increase their financial literacy.”

Monday’s event will also feature a lecture by Anna Cabral, the former U.S. Treasurer, who is currently working as a Senior Advisor at Inter-American Development Bank.  Following her address, students will break off into five separate sessions that deal with specific financial areas:

  • Home Ownership and the Current Market;

  • What You Need to Know About Investing;

  • How to Get and Use a Credit Report to Your Advantage;

  • How to Manage Your Money After College; and

  • How to Make Credit Work for You.

The Presidential Lecture Series will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009 at the National Housing Center, which is part of the National Association of Home Builders, located at 1201 15th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20005.
