Arizona

Anticipated award amounts for 2025:

  • Spring semester: amounts vary by institution

Eligibility & Rules:

You must be an undergraduate and attend Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University or the University of Arizona. Award amounts vary by institution and commonly cover most of the program cost. If you're interested, we recommend you speak with your liaison for more information.

Arkansas

Anticipated award amounts for 2025:

  • Spring semester: $7,000 (public institutions) and $4,000 (private institutions)
  • Summer term*: $7,000 (public institutions) and $4,000 (private institutions) 
  • Fall semester: $7,000 (public institutions) and $4,000 (private institutions)
  • Short-Term programs: up to $2,500

Eligibility & Rules:

You must be a state resident and attend a private or public four-year institution in Arkansas. Students who have previously received a state scholarship toward a short-term program are not eligible for an additional scholarship toward a second short-term program. If you’re interested, we recommend you speak with your liaison, as scholarships are limited.

Florida

Anticipated award amounts for 2025:

  • Spring semester: $9,000
  • Summer term: $9,000
  • Fall semester: $9,000

Eligibility & Rules:

You must attend an institution in the State University System of Florida.

Please note: $1,000 of this award is contingent upon your use of TWC housing and comes directly from The Washington Center. Scholarships may be limited and we recommend you apply early.

Iowa

Anticipated award amounts for 2025:

  • Spring semester: $2,000
  • Summer term: $2,000
  • Fall semester: $2,000

Eligibility & Rules:

You must attend Iowa State University, the University of Iowa or the University of Northern Iowa.

Maryland

The Honorable Pete Rawlings Washington Center Scholarship Fund

The late Honorable Howard “Pete” Rawlings, member of the Maryland House of Delegates and chair of the House Appropriations Committee, left many lasting legacies of his work, one of which is a scholarship program for selected Maryland students. This scholarship program began in 1999 and was named in Delegate Rawlings’ honor in 2006 for his extensive work on higher education and student civic engagement.

Anticipated award amounts for 2025:

  • Spring semester: $14,000 (HBCUs* or community colleges), $11,000 (other public institutions) and $3,000 (private institutions)
  • Summer term: $12,490 (HBCUs* or community colleges), $11,000 (other public institutions) and $3,000 (private institutions)
  • Fall semester: $14,000 (HBCUs* or community colleges), $11,000 (other public institutions) and $3,000 (private institutions)
  • Short-Term programs: up to $2,500

The four Historically Black Colleges and Universities located in Maryland are Bowie State University, Coppin State University, Morgan State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. 

Eligibility & Rules:

You must be a state resident and attend a four-year public or private institution, or a select community college in Maryland. Students who have previously received a state scholarship toward a short-term program are not eligible for an additional scholarship toward a second short-term program.

Please note: if you attend a public institution (including HBCUs or community colleges), $2,000 of the summer or semester award is contingent upon your use of TWC housing and comes directly from The Washington Center.

Massachusetts

Anticipated award amounts for 2025:

  • Spring semester: $9,000
  • Summer term: $9,000
  • Fall semester: $9,000
  • Short-Term programs: up to $2,500

Eligibility & Rules:

You must attend a four-year public institution in Massachusetts, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and be a resident of the Commonwealth.

Students who have previously received a state scholarship toward a short-term program are not eligible for an additional scholarship toward a second short-term program.

Please note: $1,300 of this award is contingent upon your use of TWC housing and may come directly from The Washington Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts or another private donor. If you attend a state system institution, you should also talk with your campus liaisons to find out if you may also qualify for funding through the State University Internship Incentive Program (SUIIP).

Mississippi

Anticipated award amounts for 2025:

  • Spring semester: $10,000
  • Summer term: $10,000
  • Fall semester: $10,000
  • Short-Term programs: up to $2,500

Eligibility & Rules:

You must attend Alcorn State University, Delta State University, Jackson State University, Mississippi State University, Mississippi University for Women, Mississippi Valley State University, University of Mississippi or the University of Southern Mississippi. Students who have previously received a state scholarship toward a short-term program are not eligible for an additional scholarship toward a second short-term program. If you’re interested, we recommend you speak with your liaison, as scholarships are limited.

New Jersey

Anticipated award amounts for 2025:

  • Spring semester: $1,000
  • Summer term: $1,000
  • Fall semester: $1,000

Eligibility & Rules:

If you attend any institution in New Jersey, you’re eligible for these awards! If you attend Stockton University, you are eligible by arrangement with the institution, to receive a $2,550 award for the semester and $1,700 for the summer.

North Carolina

  • Spring semester: $11,000
  • Summer term: $9,000
  • Fall semester: $11,000

You must be a state resident and attend an institution in the University of North Carolina System. Students who have previously received a state scholarship toward a short-term program are not eligible for an additional scholarship toward a second short-term program.

Ohio

You must be an undergraduate and attend a public or private four-year institution in the state of Ohio. Students who have previously received a state scholarship toward a short-term program are not eligible for an additional scholarship toward a second short-term program.

Pennsylvania

Anticipated award amounts for 2025:

  • Spring semester: $8,500 (PASSHE and state-related institutions) and $4,000 (private institutions)
  • Summer term: $11,000 (PASSHE and state-related institutions) and $6,000 (private institutions)
  • Fall semester: $8,500 (PASSHE and state-related institutions) and $4,000 (private institutions)
  • Short-Term programs: up to $2,500

Eligibility & Rules:

You must attend a four-year institution in Pennsylvania and be a resident of the Commonwealth. Students who have previously received a state scholarship toward a short-term program are not eligible for an additional scholarship toward a second short-term program.

Please note: if you attend a PASSHE or state-related institution, $1,250 of the summer or semester award is contingent upon your use of TWC housing and may come directly from The Washington Center, the PASSHE Foundation, or another private donor. 

Tennessee

Anticipated award amounts for 2025:

  • Spring semester: $11,000
  • Summer term: $11,000
  • Fall semester: $11,000
  • Short-Term programs: up to $2,500

Eligibility & Rules: 

You must attend Austin Peay State University, East Tennessee State University, Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee Technological University, Tennessee State University, The University of Memphis or The University of Tennessee Chattanooga. Students who have previously received a state scholarship toward a short-term program are not eligible for an additional scholarship toward a second short-term program.
