Lauren Porter is currently a junior studying politics and English at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. She grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, less than a mile from the state capitol building; this led her to grow up with a keen interest in state and local government. She has been involved in several grassroots advocacy campaigns in support of public education, reproductive rights, and other social justice issues.
When she’s not in class, she enjoys reading, traveling, dancing and watching movies with friends. Lauren has always been interested in politics, but recently she has become more involved in criminal justice research and activism. In D.C., Lauren is interning with the D.C. Bar Foundation, which is the District’s largest funder of civil legal aid services. Visiting museums, going on walks and trying new restaurants are some of her favorite parts of living in the District. After graduating, she plans to work in criminal justice reform before going to law school.
