My name is Matt Lawson and I’m a junior political science major at Dickinson College, a small-liberal arts school located in southern Pennsylvania. Beyond my major, I am currently pursuing a certificate in security studies, a specialized academic program founded on the belief that through the promotion of international security cooperation, the world will become a more peaceful and unified place.
Over the next several months, I’ll be conducting my internship at the Near East South Asia (NESA) Center for Strategic Studies, a Department of Defense regional center geared toward promoting international security cooperation through academic expertise. Through the experience, I’ll primarily be conducting research on the NESA region and supporting program seminars, providing the center with useful information on how to improve regional security cooperation through policy initiatives and the promotion of effective communication techniques.
Beyond security studies, I’m passionate about international issues including government ethics and human rights, with specific interest in transnational issues including migration and war. After graduating, I hope to follow these passions into the professional world, ideally through federal employment. Outside of academics, I enjoy travelling, cooking, and staying active and I hope to continue to pursue these passions while I live in the D.C. area.
