I am Melanie – born and raised in the forgotten state of Arkansas. Yes, it is in the South! I attend the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) where I double major in history and African American studies. When I manage to peel my eyes away from “Shameless” or “Criminal Minds,” I spend most of my time working rigorously to improve social justice on my campus. I am the former president of the National Organization for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on UCA’s campus and the Liberal Arts Representative for the Student Government Association.
Over the past semester, I have added photography to my growing list of hobbies. Being in Washington, D.C. has contributed to this hobby in a tremendous way. I am not only able to learn about historical monuments in Washington, but I can take amazing photos in front of them!
As I embark on my journey interning at the National Archives and Records Administration, I hope to expand my knowledge of history and create connections with the people who help maintain our nation's historical documents. Most importantly, I want to create meaningful networks that will contribute to my career as a historian. Thank you, TWC for the opportunity.
