Hi! My name is Sara Ahmed and I’m from New York. I’m a senior at Hofstra University where I double major in Political Science and Economics with a minor in Middle Eastern and Central Asian Studies. I’ll be interning at Leadership Global, an international development organization doing work in West Africa and the Caribbean - a great fit for someone like me who is passionate about sustainable growth and human rights.
I’m in D.C. for very practical reasons, like expanding my professional network before I graduate and enter the workforce. But when I’m not filling out job applications, I plan on going to museums, cultural events, and protests and marches. I love food (Who doesn’t?) and I’m excited to eat at as many food trucks as my stomach and wallet can handle. I’m also an avid cook, and enjoy and using ingredients I’ve never heard of.
In my spare time, I can usually be found journaling, browsing bookstores and reading fiction and young adult novels. My favorite authors are Zadie Smith, Jhumpa Lahiri, and Marie Lu. When I get the chance, I love seeing live performances like musicals and plays, but I watch reruns of The Office and the Great British Bake Off with the same enthusiasm.
