Program Advisor, Federal Initiatives

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $60,000, Annually

The Program Advisor serves as the first line of support for TWC’s applicants and program participants. Reporting to the Assistant Director or Senior Program Manager, this position is responsible for participant communication and implementation of day-to-day activities for funded programs designed to attract outstanding individuals from all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds. The Program Advisor will support relationship development with internal and external stakeholders, advising applicants, candidates, and selected participants throughout their experience and collaborating within the department as well as across departments at the organization to provide excellent service and support. 

The Washington Center is a remote/hybrid organization with many employees working on average one day per week in TWC’s Residential and Academic Facility, conveniently located near Union Station and public transportation in the NoMa neighborhood of Washington, DC. Given our organizational mission focus on skills, workforce development and collaboration, there are times where cross-collaboration among teams and departments will require more than one day per week in the office. Further, some programs at TWC do require program staff to work nights and/or weekends. The individual in this role is expected to reside in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. 

Essential Functions

Student Recruitment and Advisement

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of strategic marketing and recruitment plan(s) for federal programs specially focused on university partnerships.
  • Collaborate with MarCom Dept. to meet applicant targets for marketing and recruitment efforts.
  • Nurture student leads and in-progress applicants through email, text messaging, and phone calls.
  • Set-up webinars to deliver information to perspective applicants and participants. 
  • Organize logistics for and coordinate program events including selection, orientation, and virtual program activities.
  • Utilize technological tools to increase efficiency of program execution and provide all program materials and communication to participants.

Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as proxy to Program Manager and point of contact to provide all clients with excellent customer service. Clients may include, but are not limited to: federal agencies, university/college officials, students, and travel and meeting vendors.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with strategic partners, including universities and higher ed organizations, that will further the awareness of the program(s) and increase marketing effectiveness.
  • Provide designated manager(s) with updates on stakeholder and participant involvement.
  • Ensure completion of monthly or quarterly programmatic reports for agency partners.
  • Review and provide feedback on internship applications and assist in matching participants with mentors and advisors.
  • Train and guide program coordinator(s).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Student Experience

  • Explain program requirements, milestones, and processes to program participants. Review requests for program deferrals and determine eligibility of requests.
  • Keep participants informed about program policies, including financial assistance, and ensure their adherence to program requirements.
  • Brief participants on housing stipulations and track necessary documentation to facilitate lodging support.
  • Arrange for qualified program alumni to participate in development sessions for participants.
  • Create, maintain, and analyze surveys to ensure the effectiveness/satisfaction of program activities and programming.

Required Education and Experience

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 2+ years’ related work experience 
  • Experience working with students

Preferred Education/Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree is a plus
  • Experience working with the Federal government is a plus
  • Experience working with college students highly preferred
