I’m Eryn Star, a Sociology/English major with a Public Policy & Service concentration at Albion College in Michigan. My home state is Connecticut. I’m comfortable with any gender pronouns. I’m interning at the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL), a disability justice advocacy organization. NCIL is run by disabled people for disabled people, and it works to ensure that disabled people live and receive support in their home community. NCIL also does advocacy in education, healthcare, voting rights, and much more. As an intern, I will be writing blog posts on issues and attending briefings and hearings on Capitol Hill. It is my first internship, and I’m really excited that I’ve gotten the opportunity to be doing the work that I’ve wanted to do for a long time at an organization I love.
In my free time, I tend to immerse myself in sci-fi & fantasy TV shows, especially Doctor Who, Sense8, and Stranger Things. I’m currently obsessed with Good Omens and will talk about it with anyone who will listen. I also enjoy infodumping about Shakespeare and applying his plays to disability studies and queer theory. My favorite singers are Sufjan Stevens, Moses Sumney, Janelle Monae, and serpentwithfeet. I’m excited to celebrate my first Pride parade and festival here.
I look forward to sharing with you all about living my best life in DC!
