Accessibility Term Fellow (Grant Funded)

Salary Range: $30.00 to $35.00, Hourly (20 to 25 hours per week)

The Accessibility Term Fellow will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive programming that supports individuals with disabilities and promotes accessibility in nonprofit, and workforce development settings. Working closely with key stakeholders, including the Accessibility Taskforce Committee, the fellow will deliver impactful training, design accessible resources, and enhance the inclusivity of programs for students, employers, and staff. 

TWC is a majority remote organization: for most employees, employment with TWC will not be contingent on physical presence in an office space. Given the nature of this role in program delivery, TWC does have some physical space in Washington, D.C. and the individual in this role will be expected to work in Washington regularly in a hybrid capacity.  

This position is grant funded, and the length of the assignment is dependent on funding availability. 

Essential Functions

  • Design and implement curriculum for students, staff, and employers on accessibility and disability inclusion.
  • Work with Accessibility task force to develop and advocate for policies and procedures and promote equitable access for persons with disabilities.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions for diverse audiences, including students with disabilities and their allies.
  • Develop resources such as handouts, guides, and toolkits tailored to program participants.
  • Provide insights into improved methods of delivery service and new technology and aids.
  • Ensure deliverables are designed and implemented with accessibility and gender inclusion in mind.
  • Establishing processes for collecting feedback on Accessibility issues of the provided products and services and creating standard operating procedures to generate actionable items for internal remediation or escalation to external vendors.
  • Ensuring the accessibility and inclusiveness of stakeholder experience to all end-users regardless of disability or assistive technology.
  • Ensuring that Accessibility is integrated throughout the agile development and delivery processes.

Required Education and Experience

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in fields such as education, psychology or behavioral sciences, social work, or counseling. 
  • Educators or practitioners with experience in accessible curriculum design and workforce development.
  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or workforce training sectors is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement programming for individuals with disabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of ADA regulations, Section 504, and the best practices in accessibility.

Preferred Education/Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience conducting training or workshops for diverse groups, including employers and students.
  • Experience in Universal Design, Disability Studies, and/or Assistive Technology as well.

One or more of the following certifications: 

  • Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC)
  • Certified Professional in Web Accessibility (CPWA)
  • Certified Accessibility Specialist (CAS) 
  • IAAP Certified Professional in Accessible Built Environments (CPABE)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills & ability to communicate (oral/writing) effectively at all levels internally & externally. 
  • An exceptional ability to multi-task, carry out numerous projects at the same time, and deal with frequent interruptions.
