Senior Program Manager, Academic Internship Program

Salary Range: $67,000.00 To $74,000.00, Annually

The Senior Program Manager, Academic Internship Programs is responsible for overseeing the execution and planning of academic internship programs, ensuring high-quality participant experiences and program operations in the organization’s tailored workforce and career readiness programs. Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Senior Program Manager will lead a team of program managers in implementing internship programs, coordinating logistics, and providing direct support to participants. The Senior Program Manager provides strategic counsel, makes key decisions, and oversees day-to-day program activities, ensuring the steady and continuous adherence of all programs to TWC’s values in a way that enhances participants’ experience, learning, and workforce. The Senior Program Manager will also work closely with internal and external partners to ensure seamless program delivery and continuous improvement. 

The Washington Center is a remote/hybrid organization with the majority of employees working on average one day per week in TWC’s Residential and Academic Facility, conveniently located near Union Station and public transportation in the NoMa neighborhood of Washington, DC. Given our organizational mission focus on skills, workforce development and collaboration, there are times where cross-collaboration among teams and departments will require more than one day per week in the office. The individual in this role is expected to reside in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Essential Functions

Leadership & Team Management

  • Manage and support the team of program managers in the successful execution of short-term and semester-long academic internship programs.
  • Oversee components of in-person and hybrid program delivery. 
  • Contribute to the training and professional development of the program management team.
  • Oversee creation of deliverables and outgoing communication from Academic Internship Program team.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and guidance to program managers, allowing team members to fulfill their potential and ensuring alignment with program goals and best practices.
  • Ensure accuracy and adherence to program requirements by program team.
  • Manage fulfillment of contractual obligations with contracted partners. 
  • Oversee and actively manage a caseload of students in the semester-long internship program as needed.

Stakeholder Management

  • Assist the Director in providing all clients with excellent customer service. Clients may include, but are not limited to federal agencies, travel and housing companies, students and university/college officials.
  • Plan and lead periodic check-ins with the program manager team and facilitate team and individual meetings.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with external partners, including internship sites, universities, speakers and faculty, ensuring a seamless experience for participants.
  • Develop relationships and partnerships with stakeholders to support fellows’ internship experiences, ensuring they are paired with mentors.
  • In concert with Director, draft quarterly programmatic qualitative/quantitative reports to share with colleagues and select partners in alignment with program goals and outcomes, and TWC’s strategic plan.

Program Operations Oversight

  • Under the Director’s counsel, conduct programs including facilitation of selection process, orientation and professional development workshop series including oversight of travel and logistics.
  • Support the Director of Programs in program evaluations, building lessons-learned and collecting feedback to demonstrate program impact.
  • Support the development, revise, and maintain training/onboarding resources and guides to build consistency and operational effectiveness within and across the programs team.
  • Utilize technological tools to increase efficiency of program execution and provide all program materials and communication to participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

  • Master’s degree in related field required
  • Experience working with adult students required
  • 4+years’ related work experience required in educational or workforce readiness program management
  • Proven experience with session design, facilitation and/or training
  • 3+ years successful experience leading teams 

Preferred Education/Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working with student conduct mediation is preferred
  • Experience working with college students highly preferred
